Immigration

As I am sure everyone is well aware, there is legal, and illegal immigration. My opposition is of the illegal variety. I am sure we are all against illegal immigration. However, politicians from both parties have failed us in this matter. The problems, to name a few, of illegal immigration:

• The burden placed on our schools, which are required to teach all children, regardless of legal status. In some cases, bi-lingual teachers are needed, at a higher cost to the school system, to accommodate the illegals.

• Burden placed on local health care systems. We are a compassionate society. I know most of us would not accept seeing a citizen, or non-citizen suffer and be denied medical care. Because most illegals cannot afford healthcare, or carry health insurance, we, the taxpayers, are left with the bill. I do not fault local governments or hospitals for this problem. Nor do I advocate we deny emergency services to anyone. However, allowing illegals to come into, and stay in our country, costs our local governments precious medical funds that should be spent on our citizens.

• Lost tax revenue. Illegals do not file federal tax returns, therefore, do not pay federal income taxes. Those that are paid “under the table” do not pay social security or Medicare taxes. They do not pay local or state income taxes. If illegals are in fact filing jobs that citizens could and should have, then we are losing tax revenue by them working. Some will argue the illegals are taking low paying jobs, and in fact, save the government money since an American with that same job would most likely be eligible for various types of welfare, such as Earned Income Credit. To that, I scoff. I assure you, the American is still getting his welfare!

• American Jobs. Some claim that the illegals are taking jobs which Americans will not perform. If this is true, it is because a segment of our population no longer believes in the American dream, which is sad. That segment has been brought up knowing that they can either work hard, and get by, or rely on the government, and get by. If we stop coddling able bodied people, and required them to work, they will work. The welfare reform act in the 90’s proved that to be true. I don’t generally consider myself to be lazy, but I assure you, if I was told I would get $100 to sit on my couch for the next 10 hours, or $100 to pull weeds for the next 10 hours, many days I would choose the couch!

As you can see, the issue illegal immigration ties into many other aspects of our lives. I consider the problem to be monumental, and must be addressed immediately.

First and foremost, we must secure the border. If it requires military action, then so be it, but we must stop the inflow of illegals. Second, we must properly fund the necessary agencies to be able to enforce our existing laws. We have a back log of hundreds of thousands of known illegals awaiting deportation. I say “start tomorrow.” On that note, to raise the funding, we must cut budget items elsewhere, I in no way believe our national budget should be increased.

I am not for amnesty. However, let me be clear, if amnesty wins, then I will welcome our new citizens. But, that in no way, should lessen our resolve to never allow this situation to come again. We should still secure the border, and keep it secure. We should still deport, or imprison those that are wanted for crimes.

I have decided to run for congress after many years of people asking me, "Why don't you run for congress?"

I believe the current Republican leadership has failed Republicans everywhere, but more than that, they have failed Americans.

There is nothing wrong with true Conservative principles. The problem is the lack of actually living up to those principles.

I hope that my one voice in Congress, along with the thousands of voices of support for me, will usher in a new wave of conservative Republicans that will always stand by the principles of the Republican Party. In doing so, our country will have better days ahead than anyone could ever possibly imagine.
